Vacation in Ibiza Spain, Spring 1966
In the Spring of 1966 . Anglia Control was preparing
to
be decommissioned, winter in East Anglia was over.
Mac Dumler and I decided we were do for a vacation. As I
remember it we took a world map and tossed a dart. Where
the dart landed as long as the temperature there was
warm, we were going. The dart landed on Ibiza, a small
island off the East coast of Spain. When we arrived, we
took a bus to the tourist town of San Anton. Since we
had no hotel reservations, Mac went looking for
someplace for us to stay. While he was gone I sat on our
luggage in the middle of the town square. About a half
hour passed before an excited Mac returned. He
said he had found the greatest Hotel, It was full of
women, and best thing the price was right, I
can't remember the exact amount but between the two of
us we had enough to cover our stay. The price was so
good we stayed an extra week instead of going on to Madrid. Well as you can see by the
pictures we took advantage of all that the island
offered. The meals in the hotel were fine, we rented
motor scooters so we could travel around the island site
seeing. I remember thinking it was so beautiful there if
I didn't have but about 2 months left in the Air Force I
may have stayed there. There are many stories I could
tell about this trip, like the Priest, we became
drinking buddies with, Viva Cuba Libra ( Rum and Coke
with a twist of lime),
The girls from South Africa and the English tour guides.
As a mater of fact it was lucky we made friends with the
tour guides as we did not have enough money to pay for
our hotel bill. It seems Mac when he was hotel searching
was given the price which he thought was for both of us,
turns out it was cost for only one. One of the tour
guides loaned us the money so we could pay our bill. I
sent her the money as soon as I got back to the base.
And to close Yes the water was that blue. This slide
show should be viewed along with the slide show of our
Barcelona Spain trip which preceded this stop. By the way in case you remember
Ibiza is famous for a book that was written by
Clifford Michael Irving (born
November 5,
1930) is an
American writer, best known for an "authorized
autobiography" of
Howard Hughes that turned out to be a
hoax. He hid out there. |
