South Hills High School Class of 62 Reunion

The SHHS  Class of 62 held their 40th reunion at Oglebay Park Resort in the hills near Wheeling West Virginia, May 10th and 11th, 2002. Actually those hills were nearly mountains to flat land people like Diane and me. The grounds of this old mansion are beautifully kept, with lots of paths to hike,  ponds with several rabid geese that did not like Diane, flower gardens to admire and shops to spend money in. They also had a championship 18 hole golf course on the grounds. By our observation there were  few if any water hazards on the course or on the driving range. That's because water doesn't stop to puddle on the sides of cliffs.

After we checked in we went down to the lobby to wait for friends Jim Lindner and his wife to arrive. When Jim walked into the lobby I knew it was him as he looked the same as I could remember except he was a little fatter and a lot more sober than I  remembered. It seems Jim found the cure after a serious automobile accident several years ago. Jim's first remark to me was " I see you put on a little weight" Jim was still the same old cocky Jim that I remembered from the 50s and 60s. While everyone came wearing their best tie, Jim came in his stars and stripes shirt, that's the Jim I remember. several of my other friends were there, including Charles Osborne, who I am sorry to say I did not recognize until I checked him out in the 1962 Sesame our yearbook. It must have been because he has put a little weight on.  Donna McIntosh was there, who hasn't changed in 40 years.  The girl who sat next to me in choir, Laverne Andrews, who I had a crush on but never told her about it, also was there. Later while talking with Laverne, Diane and I learned that she had married and was living about 5 miles away from us. A hi-light of the weekend was seeing another old buddy of mine, Jim Kieffer. It was because of Jim that I nearly flunked senior chemistry. I will not go into the story too deeply  except to say  I saw stars after Mr. Franklin  the chemistry  teacher crowned me with the chemistry book. In closing, we had fun that weekend seeing old friends, except for the moment at the bar when this slightly drunk, over weight woman, twice my age slid up to the bar stool besides me. She introduced her self and said she was a graduate of my class , but she did not remember me. Well since we were all given name badges that had our old 1962 pictures on them, I leaned over to show her my old picture. Her first remark after seeing my picture and looking back at me was "You sure were quite a hunk then"  Boom, there went my bubble. I might go to the 45th but only if my bar friend doesn't attend.
