Frog Pond    Roehler family written history

Scroll down to view pictures

This is the history of the Roehler Family founded by Ed (Gig) and Alma Roehler. They had four daughters Lillian, Dorothy, Edna, and Alma (Huntz). The daughters then married and created their own families. Lillian married Joseph Scudder and had two boys Bill and Michel.  Dorothy married Bill Purkey and had a boy named Eddie and a daughter named Doreen. Edna married Jim Lamoreaux and had 2 boys named Don and Bob. Finally Alma whom we knew as Huntz had 2 boys named Tom and Lee. I will not go further into the family tree as Doreen has written a much better history than I ever could write. The picture above was taken from a plate painting, and is believed to be Gig's mother.

Subject: Regarding the Roehler Family Tree - My great-grandmother's maiden name Roehler married name Cronenweth
Date: Sun, 10 Jan 2010 02:37:41 -0600
Hello,
I happened to stumble upon your web site and was reading about the Roehler Family.  I would like to email a photo to Mr. Lee Hamel
(Roehler Family) of my "Dairy Granny"...she was a Roehler.  My father Ray Cronenweth is deceased and my mother (89 yrs. old) doesn't'
t remember Dairy Granny's first name...it was possibly "Annie."..not sure.  When Dairy Granny's husband died she ran the dairy and later
passed it to her two sons Raymond (my grandfather) and Ed.  My grandfather, Raymond Cronenweth passed away in 1963.  My dad, Ray
...his son died 1975.
I was shocked to see on your site the Roehler information and two photos  John and Hilda Cronenweth are the exact same photos
 I have in my possession.

I have some old photos of the house she lived in on Herman St in Troy Hill and a photo of her.  I thought that Mr. Hamel or his family may
like them emailed to him.  I haven't been able to make the connection to Mr. Hamel and my Dairy Granny.

(Lee and his brother Tom are the sons of "Huntz" Alma Hamel. Huntz is the youngest of the 4 girls born to Alma and Ed "Gig" Roehler. Huntz was married to Edward Hamel.)
Lee lives in a log cabin he built in Southern Ohio. No indoor plumbing, So when its cold and you have to go you had better go quickly. Of all the Grandchildren Gig had I think
Lee is the closest to resembling Gig. He make the presentation rifles the NRA gives at their conventions.  Lee makes the presentation wearing buckskins.
You can learn about Lee an see his cabin and a little bit about a small reunion we had at Lee's cabin several years ago by going to the following link in my web page.
Note added by Don Lamoreaux

My mother was telling me that if she remembered correctly Fritz was a flyer during World War II and he was a character...liking to take risks by flying under bridges, etc..

The lady in the photo is my Dairy Granny...maiden name "Roehler."  I wish I had her first name, maybe you or Mr. Hamel could furnish
that information since my mom does not remember.
 regards,

Mrs. Dyle (Cronenweth) Warren

When my grandfather sold Cronenweth Dairy it is my understanding he turned it over to his brother Ed. It was at that time
the family moved to South Florida. Most all are deceased now except for my mother who married Ray Cronenweth Jr., my father.
We have been living in North Texas for the last 38 years.

I have one more group of photos to email, hopefully you may recognize some of the individuals in the picture.

regards,

Dyle

I believe I've emailed all the photos in my possession to you and also Don...these are the last two I have come across. I'm hoping
your mom is able to recognize some of these and enjoys them...

Thanks for the information regarding the Roehler's, Cronenweth's, the Cronenweth Dairy and St. Paul's Lutheran Church that net surfing
enabled me to find. I am David Zech and was born in 1942 to Irma and Elmer Zech.  Elmer is the artist who drew the pen and ink drawing
for the 90th Anniversary (1936) Membership Directory for St. Paul's.  A copy of the drawing is attached.
A copy of the Cronenweth Dairy Incorporation paperwork showing Annie Cronenweth, Ray Cronenweth and Edward Cronenweth as the
owners is also attached.  I am the proud owner of the originals for each of the attachments.

Annie Cronenweth was my Great Grandmother - most likely "Dairy Granny" is a reference to her.  Annie's Will left the dairy to Ray and Edward (her sons).
Eventually Edward bought out Ray and Ray moved to Florida.  Edward suffered a severe stroke in 1960 and died March 14, 1961.  Edward's son Jack controlled
the dairy for a very brief period of time until it was sold to Harmony Dairy.

Irma Zech (maiden name Cronenweth) is a cousin to Alma Roehler.  Irma was born July 30, 1916 and Alma is six months older.  Both women still converse often.

Thought you might find these historical tidbits interesting.
Earlier today I started a family tree that I thought your cousin Doreen might get a kick out of.  Please see attached JPG file.
